Book Approved

Good news everyone! The third proof print turned out to be just fine and hence I released the book today. You can order the catalog today directly from CreateSpace, a daughter company or Amazon.com, or you may wait for 5-7 days for the book to appear on Amazon. Here is the information I received:

  • CreateSpace eStore – Your title is already available: https://www.createspace.com/3614960
  • Amazon.com – Books take 5-7 business days to be listed on Amazon.com. Listings are built in stages; some parts of your title’s details may be available before the page is complete.
  • Expanded Distribution Channel – If you’ve chosen the Expanded Distribution Channel for your book, it may take 6-8 weeks for your title to begin populating to the distribution outlets you’ve selected.

The price of the book is 89 USD and you will get 392 pages of Minifigure goodness in full color.

Second Proof Print Arrived

After making some corrections, the second proof print arrived today. Unfortunately, one type of image was not printed, despite it showing up in the PDF file correctly. After some investigation, I found out that it has a different color space. I am recompiling the book and will send the new PDF back to the printer today. Producing the book turned out to be more difficult than anticipated. Having a good PDF does not always mean that it will print okay.

LEGO Minifigure Nomenclature

The nomenclature is based on the three levels of themes and the inclusion of the year. Each theme received a three letter code, listed in the table below, which already includes the codes for even non-standard scale Minifigures. The later resolved the need to distinguish between, for example, the City Minifigures from the Town Minifigures. All the figures in the Town precede the figures from the City theme. The nomenclature for Minifigures used in the book is:

hhh.mmm.lll.yyyy.ss
where:

h denotes the high theme level
m denotes the medium theme level
l denotes the low theme level
y denotes the year in which the figure was first released
s denotes a serial number Continue reading “LEGO Minifigure Nomenclature”

LEGO Minifigure Theme Taxonomy

We created a taxonomy of the LEGO themes that is used to classify the Minifigures. In addition we create a Nomenclature to give each figure a unique name.

The Library of Congress has included the Unofficial LEGO Minifigure Catalog into their system by providing an Library of Congress Catalog Number (LCCN). Furthemore, the National Library of New Zealand included the book in their Cataloguing-in-Publication Data (CIP).:
